Preregistration and Place Reservation
Required documentation:
- Hard copy of the preregistration form.
- Copy of ID, NIE, or passport (as appropriate), and one color, passport-sized photograph.
- Payment receipt of €360. The amount will be refunded if the academic requirements are not met, (as long as this is justified within the enrollment period for the year in progress).
Degrees require students to comply with all requirements of any applicable regulation, both internal and external. Therefore, there are no other basic requirements since, if the applicable regulations for access to degree studies are complied with and with the possible minimum level of linguistic competencies described, the established requirements will be met. Setting other requirements outside these parameters would lead to imposing criteria that are far removed from the principles of equality, non-discrimination, merit, and ability.
Even so, during the admission process that will be detailed below, the university emphasizes and looks for a series of values and concerns in interested students, which it considers of utmost importance for the student profile it intends to build. Among other aspects, the following stand out:
- Interest and curiosity about culture, both their own and that of other regions.
- Intellectual curiosity and a strong desire to explore the role of intercultural political communication, understand the rules governing contemporary societies, and examine how international social actors interact and innovate in their decision-making processes.
- Strong skills in oral and written expression.
- A deep understanding of ethics as the fundamental driver of human decision-making.
- In addition to all the individual aspects that each degree program requires and that are adapted to student training and professional future.
The preregistration and place reservation processes are a group of progressive actions established to enroll in any of the degrees offered at the university.
The main objective of the process is to inform of all the conditions associated with access to the university and the degree to be studied and, in case of confirmation of interest by the student, to formalize Preregistration and Place Reservation allowing access to the enrollment process convened by the university.
In addition, due to its different phases and the information provided in them, the process is intended to focus especially on helping and guiding students in key moments of their formative process, such as the choice of their degree program, mainly because it is the first university education choice they will be making. The aim is to avoid, as far as possible, errors in this decision, which could lead to academic failures by initiating studies for which the student was not motivated or for which they were unaware of the curriculum and its requirements.
The admissions process is directed and organized by the Admissions Office and is supported by a structure formed by other academic and administrative university services involved in the process. The university has thus created an interdisciplinary curriculum that aims to satisfy the information needs of students and their families from multiple areas.
Among the departments that provide assistance to the Admissions Department are the Student and Scholarship Services, the degree's Academic Directorate/Coordination, and the Academic Secretary's Office, among others. All of them respond to the candidate's needs, providing direct or indirect interventions to resolve any questions raised. Thus, questions related to the university's scholarship programs or those of third parties seeking financial support, the study plan structure and details regarding the content of certain subjects, the required academic documentation for access, the possibility of curricular adaptation-including those derived from Special Educational Needs, etc., are some of the common inquiries resolved by these departments.
Public Information and International Dissemination
It is possible to access almost all the information provided by the Office through the university website, including detailed information about the degree program, regulations, application forms, communication channels, etc. Special mention should be made that international students may contact the university through its representation offices working together with FUNIBER.
In cases regarding international students, each office has the same role as the university's Admissions Office, in addition to having a coordinating and advisory center at all levels—the International Relations Office. This department provides detailed information on the process of obtaining a student visa, the main means of access to Spain, as well as the process of homologation of the Spanish baccalaureate diploma, which are the main means of academic access for international students.
This specific resource responds to the importance that the university places on the admission of students from other educational systems and cultures, who enrich the formative context of the university and its students.
The university has established different processes that allow interested parties to access information about admission to degree programs. We can differentiate between those that are done actively and those that are considered passive.
Active activities are those that involve the direct intervention of the Admissions Office. These activities are constant during big part of the academic year, through its participation in national and international university fairs, by organizing visits to educational centers, organizing lectures by university speakers, setting up open days, etc.
Passive actions involve all advertising tools and web pages, among others, which are managed by the university, allowing direct contact with students and families.
This is when the student's contact information is transferred to the university and individual and personalized attention is offered.
Following this request, the Office provides complete and detailed information about the university and its campus, curriculum, tuition fees, university residence or other housing options, exchange programs, access requirements, etc., either by email, phone, and/or as many personal visits to the facilities as necessary.
The entire process and its variations are recorded in the commercial tracking system, which allows the Business Unit to continue with the process and maintain contact to update the status. If the student and their family accept the established conditions, the place reservation process is completed and the corresponding payment is made to ensure a vacancy in the degree program to be studied.
En ese momento el estudiante aún no tiene la condición de alumno de la universidad y admisión definitiva, la cual se logra solo en el momento de formalizar la matrícula, proceso que se detallará posteriormente y que supone estar en posesión de los requisitos de acceso.
At that moment, the applicant does not yet have a student status in the university; definitive admission is achieved only at the moment of formalizing enrollment, a process that will be explained later on and that entails meeting the necessary requirements.
Through all the ways and times in which the student has been contacted, information is obtained on completed or ongoing studies, foreign language level (including certificates or diplomas accrediting it), family data, and other information of interest to evaluate the student's entry profile. The information is gathered either verbally or by means of different forms to be filled out.
Through a digital aptitude test adapted to each degree program, students indicate, by answering a series of multiple-choice questions and a final essay, their interest in their chosen degree, any previous contact with the training area they may have, and their professional or research interests regarding said degree, among others. Additionally, thanks to personal visits to the university, personal and direct contact with the candidates is highlighted, which allows obtaining very valuable information from the candidate regarding personal data and their initial impressions, in addition to those provided in forms and mail.
Therefore, we have an important database from which to evaluate the student's access profile, guide them in choosing their degree, and thus grant the possibility of reserving a place in a specific course of study. If deemed necessary, the office may call for personal interviews in which academic staff of the degree program may take part in evaluating other characteristics of the student or require new documentation. In the event that either the student or their family expresses the need for special educational measures, the university's Admissions Office will activate the action protocol that leads them to request academic support from the degree program coordination or from the university's Psychopedagogical Office. Based on personal meetings and any reports provided, the student will be advised on the measures applicable to their specific case.
This situation allows having the necessary measures prepared from the moment classes start, allowing for an appropriate follow-up of the student's evaluation. Among them, and depending on the degree program and type of need, contact with associations or institutions related to disability, if any, can be considered. Therefore, learning or teaching academic resources may be adapted, and time needed for exams may be adjusted, among other actions.
Valuing Access Requests Following Full Vacancy Allocation
The Admissions Office has been assigned by the university to make decisions on whether or not to grant admission to degree studies for students whose applications are made after the quota of available places is full. This department is made up of its director and its team of admissions advisors. It is in charge of keeping a record of possible place requests once all the available quota for the degree program has been assigned.
These requests will be recorded and organized as received, and, in the event that any of the students with preregistration withdraw or cannot comply with the enrollment requirements (academic, administrative, economic, etc.), students making the request will be informed in case they are interested in having the option to enroll.
En todo caso sería exigido en iguales condiciones que los estudiantes con reserva de plaza previa a efectos de cumplir con la normativa de acceso externa e interna.
