D. in Biology from the Max Planck Institute for Cell Biology and Genetics at the University of Dresden. He has published the results of some of his research in prestigious journals such as JCS, Current Biology and Genome Research. He was awarded the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) fellowship and the Marie-Curie fellowship. His research interests have been in cell structure, the nervous system and hereditary cancer.

A university professor and researcher specializing in applied linguistics and the teaching of English as a second language. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communication, and Public Relations from Seattle University, a master’s degree in Second Language Learning and Teaching from the University of Cantabria, and a Ph.D. in Geography and History from the same university, where he graduated with highest honors (cum laude). His research focuses on the analysis of meaning in texts written in L2 from a systemic-functional linguistic perspective, with a special interest in linguistic complexity, the development of writing in second languages, and the relationship between meaning, grammar, and CEFR proficiency levels. His academic work includes university teaching, supervising undergraduate and master’s theses, scientific publication, and participation in national and international conferences on linguistics and second language acquisition.
